"Being a part of SLDI provided me with so many wonderful opportunities! As a student in the Leadership Certificate Program I was able to attend a National Student Conference on Ethical Leadership in Austin , Texas , as well as have lunch with David Stern, the Commissioner of the NBA. I also learned a great deal about leadership and was able to apply that knowledge in a real-life setting. I truly feel that my experiences through SLDI will be the most useful to me in whatever I chose to do in the future."

The Leadership Development Institute at Rutgers University is a research-driven unit of scholars and leaders dedicated to the leadership development of students. We believe leadership is a multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional area of study and one that must be a priority of colleges and universities.

The Institute has five objectives:

to foster opportunities for students to develop leadership competencies while working on projects of social and civic consequence
to enable students to network with peers, experts, and organizations
to encourage students to reflect on their own personal leadership philosophy and experiences
to attract international and national leadership experts – from academia, politics, government, nonprofit and for-profit organizations – to Rutgers for colloquia and mini-conferences
to conduct cutting-edge research on leadership issues
